Brick wall installation in Rancho Cucamonga CA - a wall that fits your yard and the rules

Want privacy or a cleaner edge to your yard? We help you settle where the wall goes and how tall, then build it right.

Stone patio with built-in tiered benches surrounds a square fire pit, with strips of grass between pale paving stones.

What does it take to build a brick wall in Rancho Cucamonga?

Brick wall installation in Rancho Cucamonga means building a wall or fence of fired clay brick on a solid footing, planned around the city's height and permit rules so it goes up once and stays put.

Most people who call us want privacy along the back fence, a clear line between yards or a low garden wall out front. Brick suits that kind of wall because its color is part of the brick itself and holds up for years, and a properly built brick wall stands up to rain.

The price moves with the wall's length and height, how much footing has to be dug, whether your yard slopes, the brick you choose and extras like pilasters, the thicker brick columns spaced along a wall, and caps. The schedule turns mostly on the city side, the permit review and the inspections along the way, more than on the bricklaying itself, so before we start we check what the city asks for on your wall and handle the permit and inspections when one's needed. The written estimate I send after seeing your yard gives you the figure for your own wall.

What happens when you call us about a brick wall?

Here's who you'll deal with from the first visit to the last look at the finished wall, and what you get at each step.

I come out and walk the wall line with you

I look at the job myself, walk where the wall would run and answer your questions right there in the yard. I spent years running a supply yard selling brick to masons around here before I started this business in 2023, so I'll tell you plainly what each choice means for your wall.

A written estimate you can read and question

After the visit I send you a written estimate for the wall we talked about. If anything on it doesn't make sense, call and ask, because I'd rather answer one more question than leave you guessing.

An experienced mason on the brick, licensed and insured

Once you say yes, we sort out the city side, then I run the job with our crew while an experienced mason leads the brick work. We're licensed and insured, our work is satisfaction guaranteed, and we walk the finished wall with you before we leave.

How we handle brick wall installation

We start by settling where the wall goes and how tall it stands, because those two choices decide the permit, the footing and most of the cost. Then I put together a plan for the wall, any pilasters and the cap, we take care of the city side, our crew builds it on a proper footing and we clean up behind ourselves. If you're thinking about painting good brick, I'll gently talk you out of it, because bare brick stays easy to care for.

Some yards call for more than brick. If you'd like natural stone on a column, a planter or a wall next to the new brick, our stone masonry work ties it in. And if you've already got an older brick wall with crumbling joints, brick pointing, where we clear out the worn mortar and pack in fresh, often saves it without a rebuild.

  • Help deciding where the wall runs and how tall it stands
  • A written plan for the wall, pilasters and cap
  • Footing dug and poured, with steel where the design calls for it
  • Brick laid in mortar, course by course, by an experienced mason
  • Cleanup and haul-off of all our waste

How the wall itself goes up

Once the plan and any permit are settled, the building runs in this order. Each step waits on the one before it, because a wall is only as straight as the footing under it.

  1. Mark the line and dig the footing

We stake out the exact wall line you approved and dig the footing trench down to firm soil, since a footing on loose fill can settle and crack the brick above it.

  2. Set the steel and pour

We set reinforcing steel where the design calls for it and pour the concrete footing. It gets time to cure before any brick goes on so it can carry the weight.

  3. Lay the brick

Our mason lays each course to a string line and checks it for plumb and level as the wall rises. The joints get filled full so rain runs off the face instead of working its way in.

  4. Cap it and clean up

The cap goes on last to shed water off the top of the wall. Then we tool the joints, wash mortar off the face and take our waste with us.

Brick wall questions we hear in Rancho Cucamonga

Do I need a permit to build a brick wall in Rancho Cucamonga?

You do if the wall or its pilasters stand more than three feet above the lowest ground beside them, according to the city's rules for fences and walls. The city's standard wall detail, written for block walls, lists inspections at the footing trench, at the steel before grouting and a final one before any decorative cap, so the cap goes on only after that final inspection. A retaining wall that holds back soil needs a permit at three feet or more measured from the bottom of the footing, so even a low one can need it.

How tall can a brick wall be in Rancho Cucamonga?

Up to six feet in side and back yards, and no more than three feet for a solid wall in the front yard. The city's planning department can approve a Minor Exception that adds up to two feet, and the standard wall detail calls for engineered details and calculations on any wall over six feet, so a taller wall starts with an engineered design. That's why a tall privacy wall usually runs along the side or back of the lot.

Does a brick wall need to be painted?

No, clay brick doesn't need paint, and once exterior brick is painted it needs repainting every three to five years. Leaving it bare keeps the upkeep low for as long as the wall stands.

What license should a contractor have to build a brick wall in California?

California's masonry contractor license covers walls and fences built from brick and other baked clay products. Ask any builder which license they hold, and check it with the state licensing board before you sign.

Building walls on Rancho Cucamonga lots

A corner lot or a side yard that faces the street changes the plan. New walls in a street side yard have to sit at least five feet back from the property line, and corner lots have to keep a clear visibility triangle so drivers can see around the corner, so we check both before we mark the line. The city also notes that the Cucamonga Fault runs through a special study zone and could affect the city in a major earthquake, one more reason a wall here gets planned with the city's rules in hand and a solid footing under it.

We're based in Rancho Cucamonga and build walls across the cities around it, including Upland, Ontario, Fontana, Chino and more. Each city has its own wall rules, so we check yours before we plan, and if your city isn't listed, just ask us.
